Materials Made Smarter: AI & Hybrid Modelling for Manufacturing

Explore the Materials Made Smarter Centre, advancing digital research in materials manufacturing with edge AI, sensors, and hybrid modelling for better performance.

Project Overview:

The Materials Made Smarter Centre (MMSC) is a consortium grant funded by the EPSRC, serving as a hub for researchers across the entire materials manufacturing value chain. This collaborative community is committed to pioneering breakthroughs in digital research, with a focus on cutting-edge technologies such as edge-AI, sensors, and advanced physics-based modelling.

M2i2 Leadership:

M2i2 is leading the activities in Beacon 1: Efficient Fused Modelling Lead. This Beacon aims to deliver hybrid modelling tools for predicting material behaviour, structure, and performance during processing. Additionally, it will link these predictions to in-service performance, testing, and characterisation.

Hybrid Modelling Approach:

Our hybrid modelling approach combines data-driven modelling and artificial intelligence (AI) to integrate physics-based models, expert knowledge, and manufacturing process data. This creates computational tools that can be employed through edge computing or used offline. The goal is to explore unexplored manufacturing process windows, ultimately enabling our vision of Performance on Demand.
